Dublin Eurovision hopeful Lesley Roy snubs politics playing a part in the voting system

Dublin Eurovision hopeful Lesley Roy has rubbished any notion of politics playing a part in the voting system, saying: “I feel like the best song wins.”

The Balbriggan singer-songwriter will represent the nation with her inspiring song Maps at the Semi-Final in Rotterdam’s Ahoy Arena next Tuesday.

Lesley said: “I really do feel like the better written songs and the more songs that connect whether it be in a humorous way or in an emotional way, I feel like they always win.

"I genuinely do.”

The north County Dublin woman, who only has her wife Lauren there for support due to Covid-19 restrictions, said the experience this year is far from the glamour of previous occasions.

She added: “Yes, it is a bit upsetting, but I know they’re going to be cheering me on from Balbriggan.

"My sister and her own little bubble are going to have a party and my nieces are so excited.”
