Dublin driver's excuse for having no insurance or tax on car backfires quickly with gardai

A Dublin driver, who was stopped for being over the speed limit on Thursday morning, ended up having his car seized.

The driver, who was doing 103km in an 80km zone, was found to also have no tax or insurance displayed on the vehicle.

The male, who was behind the wheel of an Audi, quickly told gardai that he had only "picked up the car today"

But after completing background checks, the Swords Roads Policing Unit found "he had the car seized off him in December 2018 for no insurance and drink driving".

This comes after gardai arrested a man for a reckless car chase from Kildare to Dublin on Saturday evening.

The long-haul chase ended after the driver hit a barrier in the City West area of Tallaght having been spotted at the roadworks on the M7.

He was then arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and had his car seized.

Dubliners warned about new type of crafty theft which leaves locking your car impossible

The driver's fate was then sealed after a check showed the vehicle had no insurance, NCT, tax, and the driver produced no licence.

Pictures show empty cans of beer with gardai saying the man was arrested on suspicion of drink driving.

They said: "Naas RPU: Member of public alerted us to car driving dangerously at M7 r/works
