Dublin driver distraught as youngsters allegedly break into taxi and steal while he goes home for holiday

A Dublin taxi driver was heartbroken to discover that his taxi had been allegedly broken into by youngsters while he was miles away visiting his family in Pakistan.

Amir, who did not want to share his surname, lives in south Dublin and was informed by the apartment management that two youngsters had apparently gained access to the inside of his taxi.

The alleged incident happened on November 3 at around 7pm during the middle of Amir's trip home to see his family.

He told Dublin Live: "Management told me about the incident and I requested the footage immediately which they gave to me.

"I am living in this part of Dublin for the last four years and this is the third time that my taxi has been broken into by thugs in the basement.

"Before this, CCTV was not working but now under new management, they installed cameras so this time I caught the culprits."

The youngsters are alleged to have raided Amir's taxi but he is not due to return back to Dublin for another three weeks and as a result, has not been able to report the break-in personally to Gardai.

He said: "As soon as I come back, I will go to my local Garda station. I was told that they stole my card machine that I use for work, and around €60 in coins that I had for change for customers.

"They've probably taken much more but I wouldn't be sure until I check the car myself."

Amir added that his friend has offered to fix any damage done to the car and that he won't let the break-in destroy his "amazing holiday".

He concluded: "I am living in Ireland 12 years and I am an Irish national, but I miss Pakistan and I am really enjoying seeing everyone."
