Dublin delivery driver left with 'massive bruises' after being attacked by teen thugs

A Dublin delivery driver was left with massive bruises after he claimed he was attacked by the same gang of teen thugs for the second time in the space of three months.

The distraught man was set upon by a gang of up to 20 teenagers as he attempted to make a delivery in the Reuben Street area in broad daylight on Friday evening.

The gang allegedly threw stones and hit him with a bike lock leaving him with a huge bruise on his arm.

The driver, whose name is Rohit, told Dublin Live this is the second time the gang has attacked him.

He said: "Dublin 8 isn’t safe area (sic). I don’t deliver there when it’s dark, I mean after 6 o'clock.

"Today I accepted the order for Reuben Avenue because it was broad daylight.

"When I saw them I sped up my moped and they threw stones at me and one of them throw a bike lock at me."

He reported the assault to a passing garda patrol car a short time later.

Rohit claims the same gang attacked him in December when he made a delivery to Dolphin's Barn, leaving his moped damaged.

He said: "That time I got escaped because I drove off but a bolt cutter hit my scooter's brake lever."

The fed-up delivery man had to pay €30 to replace the damaged part and is facing more repairs after the latest attack.

"This time the brake light is damaged and now I have to change the whole set of lights."

Rohit's previous scooter, which he bought for €3,000 in 2018, was badly damaged by vandals in January 2019 before being stolen five months later.

A garda spokeswoman told Dublin Live investigations into the December attack are ongoing.

Rohit was also the victim of a disgusting incident last month when another group of teens spat at him after he tried to stop them from damaging his beloved motorbike.

He said: "I was in Talbot Street picking up an order and five teens were walking in the street.

"They kicked my bike and when I went outside and started recording, they ran and one of them spitting at me."

The luckless driver was also attacked in an estate in Lucan in 2016.

He said: "When I arrived there with food delivery, suddenly lots of people come out with screw drivers and wheel wrenches and robbed the food from me."

The fed up delivery man said he is now afraid to deliver to certain areas and fears the city is becoming more lawless.

He added: "I know every country has good or bad people but in Dublin city centre it’s getting worse.

"Screwdrivers, knives. These are very common for teenagers to have now."
