Dublin dad who was shot five times by masked gunman has died in hospital

A man who was shot five times by a masked gunman as he sat in a car in north Dublin last year has died in hospital.

Beloved dad Barry Wolverson, who was in his early 40s, passed away on Sunday surrounded by relatives.

Baz, as he was known to friends, was shot in the head and body in the horrific incident near Dublin Airport on January 17, 2020 - Dublin Live reports.

Mr Wolverson had been in a coma since. His family are understood to be distraught following his death after suffering through a "very tough year".

The victim had been sitting in a Mercedes car at Killeek Lane at St Margaret's near Swords when he was shot and was rushed to Beaumont Hospital

A short time later, a car was found on fire a few kilometres away in the Ayrfield area of Coolock near Clare Hall.

Mr Wolverson had been in critical condition for the 13 months since the incident and was sadly pronounced dead yesterday.

A garda spokeswoman told Dublin Live: "Gardaí investigating the shooting incident at Killeek Lane, St. Margaret's, Swords, Co. Dublin that occurred on 17th January, 2020 can confirm that the injured man (early 40s) has passed away.

"The post mortem results will determine the course of the investigation. Investigations ongoing."

Robert Redmond and Bernard Fogarty are currently before the courts in relation to the attempted murder of Barry Wolverson.

The 32-year-old and 33-year-old are also charged with assault causing harm to Gerard Wildman who was also injured during the same incident.
