A Dublin dad who died in a motorbike collision on the M1 motorway on Sunday has been named locally as Dave McKenna.
Dave, who is in his 30s, was sadly pronounced dead on the scene when the motorcycle he was driving crashed near Junction 6 Balbriggan northbound at around 7:15pm.
The road was closed for several hours following the incident as forensic investigations were carried out at the scene, Dublin Live reports.
Tributes have been flooding in for the young father, with family members and loved ones left shocked and distraught at the heartbreaking news.
One close friend wrote: "Can't believe it pal. RIP Dave McKenna, you were one of the good ones. Look down on your family."
Another mate said: "Can't believe it, RIP. You were a champ Dave McKenna.
A third added: "We are devastated and heartbroken. We love you so much Dave.
A Garda spokesman told Dublin Live: "Gardaí attended the scene of a fatal single vehicle road traffic collision involving a motorcycle that occurred at approximately 7:15pm on Sunday 17th May on the M1 Northbound near Junction 6 (Balbriggan).
"The driver of the motorcycle, a man in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries to persons was reported.
"Forensic Collision Investigators are currently at the scene and the road is closed with local diversions in place."
Gardai are also appealing for any witnesses to the collision to come forward and are asking for anyone who may have dashcam footage to get in touch.
They continued: "Anyone with information is asked to contact Balbriggan Garda Station on 01 8020510, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station."
