Dublin crowned one of the top cities worldwide for vegans

Dublin has been named one of the top cities in the world for vegans by National Geographic.

Publishing a list of the eight best cities to be vegan in, National Geographic - one of the world's leading magazine publications - named the Irish capital as the fourth best in the world for vegan cuisine.

Other cities to be mentioned include Warsaw, Seoul and Bengaluru in India.

Big brands like Nando's and Burger King have been getting in on the vegan trend. But it takes more than a couple of fast-food joints for a city to stand out as a real vegan hotspot.

Eating a vegan plant-based diet is becoming more easier these days in Dublin, as many city restaurants have been making the dietary requirement more accessible.

They also gave a special mention to a Cork and Galway too, the article claims that the "pace at which Ireland's vegan scene has grown" is "extraordinary". But they go on to say that "Dublin steals the show."

Here's what the National Geographic team said about our fair city's vegan scene:

"Ranked among the most vegan-friendly cities in the world, it eschews light, California-style dishes for the kind of food that will warm you on a walk along the River Liffey.

"Standouts include cauliflower, fennel tofu and wakame pie at Cornucopia and home-grown baked potatoes with battered sausage and curry sauce from takeaway restaurant McGuinness. Vegan bakery Buttercream Dream and Sova Vegan Butcher should also be on your radar."

They went on to compliment the vegan set menu at The Merrion Hotel Dublin, as they serve locally grown fruit and vegetables.

Cornucopia, who was mentioned by National Geographic reacted to the news that Dublin is one of the top four best cities for vegans.

They tweeted: "Dublin is named the 4th best city in the world to be vegan by @NatGeo and we are named with other independent business’ @buttercreamdub & @SovaVB.

"If eating plants or being vegan is a trend then we have been pretty trendy since 1986!!"
