Dublin coronavirus cases account for over 60% in Ireland for second day in row

Dublin once again accounts for over 60% of COVID-19 cases confirmed in Ireland today.

There are 396 new cases in Ireland, with 241 of those accounted for in the capital.

That's 60.86% of all cases - with Dr Ronan Glynn warning that those cases were seeded within the last week.

Of the cases, 58 were through community transmission which means they are not linked to an outbreak or cluster.

And 70% of cases are in people under the age of 45 with 224 of cases in women and 172 in men.

Dr Glynn said: "“The cases we are reporting today were seeded in the last week.

“This virus spreads from person to person. We now have a collective task across the country to break the chains of transmission and stop this virus from spreading further.

“Plan to see half the number of people this week that you saw last week. When you do meet, do so safely – keep your distance, wear a face covering if appropriate and wash your hands.

“Every individual action we take to interrupt the transmission of this disease keeps ourselves and our families safe.”
