Dublin community rocked by death of 'incredibly talented' chef

A Dublin community was left in shock following the death of a well-known chef.

Tributes have been paid to Barry O'Neill of Oliveto after he died of "natural causes" on Friday. The beloved chef was described as a "key member of the leadership team" at the restaurant in Dun Laoghaire Haddington House.

A spokesperson said the restaurant will be closed on Monday and Tuesday following the shocking news. They said on Facebook: "We apologise for any inconvenience caused to bookings.

"We have unexpectedly lost a close colleague, a key member of our leadership team, our culinary genius, our collaborator, Fla’s golf tutor and all round great person. Barry O’Neill passed away yesterday from natural causes, and our thoughts, prayers and tears are with Barry’s life partner Claire, Barry’s mum and dad, siblings and his many relatives and friends.

"Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis. Fla, Emma, Virginia, Sinead, Leonie, François and all of the HH and Oliveto team." Friends and customers took to the comments to offer their sympathies and condolences.

One person said: "So so sad. Barry was such a lovely guy and an incredibly talented chef. Sending deepest sympathy to his family, partner, friends and colleagues."

Another person added: "RIP. Very sad news." A third person said: "I am so, so sorry to hear this. What a great young man! May he rest in peace."
