Dublin community give Robyn Smyth hero's send-off following cancer battle

The community of Whitehall banded together to show their respect to young Robyn Smyth, who tragically died after a 12-year cancer battle.

Robyn, 15, died on Thursday morning in her home while surrounded by her loving family.

She had been battling neuroblastoma since the age of three and had travelled to the USA for pioneering treatment of the disease, Dublin Live reports.

A video shared by St Kevin's Boys FC shows a socially distant guard of honour lining the streets of Robyn's local community on Saturday morning.

Dozens of people clapped in respect and released balloons for the brave teen who was escorted by gardai from her home.

In a recent post on fundraising page Robyn's Life, her mum Bernadette Dornan revealed that Robyn had suffered a number of setbacks and asked people to pray for her beloved daughter.

On Friday, Bernadette appealed for people to continue donating in an effort to fund research into neuroblastoma.

She said: "There is no centre of excellence or research facility here in Ireland for this cancer.

"In time, we are hoping to set-up, with the help of the public and their donations, a programme that will help other sufferers of this disease to find a cure."

Robyn is survived by mum Bernadette, dad Leighton and her sister Millie.

Her death notice on RIP.ie reads: "Sadly missed by her heartbroken mam, dad, sister, Martina, grandad Colm, nannys Madeline and Kathleen, aunts Cathy, Caroline and Laura, cousins Faith, Teaghan, Kayla, Ava and Cole also her aunts Janet and Lorraine and all her uncles, extended family friends and neighbours.

"A sincere thank you to all Robyn’s Life followers for their kindness, help and support.

"Due to Government and HSE guidelines on Social gatherings, a private family Funeral will take place.

"Those who would have liked to attend the Funeral but due to current restrictions cannot, please feel free to leave a message in the Condolence section below.

"A memorial for Robyn will take place at a later date. No flowers by request please, donations if desired to Robyn’s Life Trust."
