Dublin college pays people to stop spot-saving students dumping stuff on library desks

Seat monitors are being rolled out in a Dublin college to stop students laying down their books before leaving spots for long periods.

Dublin City University's O'Reilly and Cregan Libraries have hired other students to walk the library and clear the spots of anyone not using their spaces.

The move has been dubbed the 'Share the Chair campaign' and comes as people have been leaving their books out on desks a bid to save spots for later use.

The new workers means people will only be able to leave for 45 minutes or risk  losing the space.

Speaking to The College View , a library manager said that the move comes ahead of exam times when students feeling the pressure can be left frustrated.

She said: “Given the pressures on our spaces in recent times, we cannot permit students to hold a desk for themselves for a time longer than 45 minutes”

Trinity College rocked by alleged attempted poison plot by student

The paper reported that 39 people applied for the positions while the interview process is now ongoing.
