Dublin coastal crusader Flossie finds lost treasure box of trinkets during beach cleanup

Young climate activist Flossie Donnelly isn't a stranger to weird and quirky finds during her beach cleanups.

The 13-year-old teen from Dun Laoghaire has been hailed as Ireland's answer to Greta Thunberg thanks to her brilliant efforts in cleaning up Dublin's coastline.

A few months ago, she shared with us a list of bizarre items she found while picking up rubbish on Dublin's beaches.

And today Flossie and her band of beach cleaners came across another rather unusual item during a routine cleanup.

The group unearthed a beautiful old leather jewellery box with the letters D O'C inscribed on the lid.

Whether this box belongs to a D O'C or is an old family relic, Flossie and the Beach Cleaners hope to reunite it with its rightful owner.

Inside the box were dozens of adorable knick-knacks from a time unknown.

Flossie said the treasure box will be handed into the guards to be reclaimed.

A post on Facebook said: "16 kilos and yet another AMAZING group of TY’s from @newparkcomprehensive!

"The tide was fully in so we thought there wouldn’t be much to find... but that’s the thing about beach cleaning you NEVER know what you will find, and today these fab eco-warriors found a beautiful old leather jewellery box stuck in the rocks and inside lots of trinkets!

"If anyone recognises this we will be handing into the guards so that it can be reclaimed."
