Dublin City Libraries to launch new 'Call and Collect' service to allow users to safely borrow books

Dublin City Libraries are to launch a new pilot ‘Call and Collect’ service next week.

From Monday, library users will be able to check if a particular book is available on the shelf and then contact the branch by phone or email or ask-a-librarian to hold the book for them.

Library staff will then organise a date and time for the library user to go to their preferred library for collection.

The scheme will initially be piloted in six libraries - Cabra, Coolock, and Raheny libraries on the city’s northside, and Rathmines, Dolphin’s Barn, and Walkinstown libraries on the southside.

Dublin City Librarian Mairead Owens said: "Dublin City Libraries are working on a plan to get libraries open again, in line with the government’s roadmap for re-opening Ireland.

"We are delighted to be offering this new ‘Call and Collect’ service as part of the phased re-opening of libraries across the city.

"Dublin City Libraries will continue to adhere to the government guidance on opening our service in a way that will not compromise the safety of public and staff, so we ask our patrons to bear with us as we negotiate the level of service we can deliver to you over the next few months."
