Dublin city gang war escalates after young man left seriously injured following brutal attack

A young man has been left seriously injured after a brutal attack in Dublin City Centre on Monday evening.

The man, in his 20's, was savagely attacked by a gang on Townsend Street at around 6:45pm.

He was taken to the Mater Hospital where he is being treated for "serious yet non-life threatening injuries".

It is understood that the incident is an escalation of a bitter feud between two inner city gangs.

The sides have been clashing over the past year and engaged in a violent street brawl where three men were hospitalised last November.

Gardai are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed Monday's attack to come forward, as well as road users who were in the area who may have dash cam footage.

A spokesperson for An Garda Siochana told Dublin Live: "Gardaí are investigating an incident of assault which occurred on Townsend Street, Dublin 2, yesterday evening 30th August 2021, at approximately 6:45pm.

"A male aged in his 20s was assaulted by a number of individuals. He attended the Mater Hospital where he is currently being treated for serious yet non-life threatening injuries.

"Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to come forward. Gardaí are particularly appealing to any road users who were in the area between 6:30pm and 7:15pm on Monday evening, and who may have camera (dash cam) footage to make it available.

"Anyone with any information in relation to this incident is asked to contact Pearse Street Garda Station on 01 666 9000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station."
