Dublin City Council vows to repair charred remains of Weaver Park as it urges public to help with investigation

The council has vowed to repair the charred remains of the Weaver Park play frame after it was set alight in a sickening attack of vandalism over the weekend.

The Cork Street park will continue to be maintained to the "highest standards" following the destruction of the frame and will be repaired as quickly as possible the council said.

Gardai have confirmed to Dublin Live that an investigation into the incident is underway but no arrests have been made so far. CCTV is currently being reviewed from the incident.

In a statement posted today on social media Dublin City Council urged those with information to help gardai with their investigation.

They said: "Dublin City Council asks members of the public who may have information on the matter to assist An Garda Siochana. CCTV coverage of Weaver Park is also being examined to try and identify those responsible for the damage.

"Weaver Park was developed by Dublin City Council for the benefit of the whole community and incorporates elements in its design which the local community voiced as being important to them. This included the iconic "Dutch Billy" play frame, which was specifically intended to provide a unique and engaging play environment for young children.

"Weaver Park is illustrative of the significant investment in amenities in which Dublin City Council has made in the Liberties in recent years on behalf of its community. The high level of use of the park is testament to the value which the wider community places on this amenity.

"The council is fully committed to maintaining the park to the highest standards for the benefit of the whole community. Dublin City Council is committed to repairing and returning the Weaver Park play frame to use as quickly as possible. The structure is currently being assessed to determine the extent of the damage and a programme to repair the play frame will follow."
