Dublin City Council urged to show All-Ireland Football Final on big screen in Smithfield

Dublin City Council are being urged to consider erecting a big screen in Smithfield for next weekend's All Ireland Football Final.

A big screen was previously installed on Smithfield Plaza in 2015 and 2016 but the turnout was disappointing due to poor weather.

But as the Dubs aim to complete the Drive for Five against Kerry at Croke Park, the council is believed to be considering the idea, reports the Herald.

Local Councillor Mannix Flynn spoke in support of the plan.

He said: "A lot of people can't get into Croke Park, or the Mansion House, and even people who have very little interest in the GAA want to be part of this and the celebrations. That's what people are saying to me.

"You're going to have a vast amount of Kerry people who don't have a ticket, who want to be in the atmosphere in the city for this event. The council should be announcing this and inviting everybody."

The All Ireland Football Final will take place at 3:30pm on Sunday, September 1 in Croke Park.
