Dublin City Council to install 150 toilets and 80 bins ahead of Bank Holiday weekend

A Dublin City Councillor has said that there will be 150 toilets installed in the city this weekend as well as 80 barrel bins in anticipation of an increase in footfall on the Bank Holiday Weekend.

It comes after businesses and residents of South William Street criticised the council and the Government for not providing more options as a large amount of groups gathered there last weekend.

It was this gathering which led the Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan to tweet his disapproval.

The aftermath of the crowds saw rubbish left all over the street - and in some cases faeces - leading DCC to act for this weekend.

Cllr Colm O'Rourke of Fine Gael said that "following requests, I have been informed that Dublin City Council will be installing an additional 150 Portaloo toilets, 54 large Eurobins and 80 Barrel Bins (13 additional) across the City from this weekend with a specific focus on high footfall areas in the City Centre."

"The Council will also be putting in additional direct labour human resources in place to service the additional waste collection and contracted services for toilet management, including cleaning and queue management. The additional toilets will be open from 10am to 11pm daily."

The move comes after a huge amount of public pressure in the last seven days.
