Dublin City Council open applications for outdoor tables and chairs for city centre businesses

Dublin City Council are welcoming application from city businesses to put tables and chairs outside to help ease social distancing concerns.

The outdoor spaces, especially those outside restaurants and pubs, are expected to be in high demand to assist the reopening of the city's hospitality industry in a post-Covid-19 lockdown world.

And the Council are now welcoming submissions for the use of outdoor spaces ahead of the expected easing of restrictions and the beginning of Phase 3 of the lockdown exit on June 29.

The full statement read: "In order to help businesses get back up and running, Dublin City Council would like to invite applications from those businesses interested in expanding into the public realm.

"All applications will be assessed from a public health, fire safety and public circulation point of view.

"Dublin City Council will be facilitating the use of the public realm for expanded street furniture provision as part of Phase 3 of the easing of Covid-19 restrictions starting the 29th of June.

"Applications can be made at  www.bit.ly/DCCStreetFurniture.

"Where permission is granted for tables and chairs, there will be no charge for a period of 6 months, with businesses who have already paid for 2020 receiving a 6 month credit in 2021.

"Please remember that at this stage in the removal of restrictions, businesses should not have furniture in the public realm as cafes/restaurants should only be providing a takeaway service."
