Dublin City Council Deputy Chief Executive Brendan Kenny is retiring after 45 years of service

Deputy Chief Executive of Dublin City Council Brendan Kenny has said he his retiring after more than 45 years service in local government.

Mr Kenny has management responsibility for housing, community services, Dublin Fire Brigade and the Emergency Ambulance Service.

In an email to the Lord Mayor and City Councillors, which was seen by Dublin Live, Mr Kenny said he had decided to "hang up the boots".

He wrote: "I wish to inform you that I have decided to hang up the boots and retire from DCC after 45 years and 9 months service in Local Government.

"My last day in work will be Friday the 15 October 2021 and I will be available to you until then.

He added: "I wish you all, the very best of luck in your endeavours for Dublin City over the coming months and years."

A spokesperson for Dublin City Council told Dublin Live Mr Kenny was retiring for "age reasons" and that he isn't moving to another job.

The spokesperson said: "Brendan Kenny is retiring on age grounds from Dublin City Council. This is a personal decision for him and he is not moving to another job."
