Dublin chef gives top tip for perfect pancakes

Pancake Tuesday is here and many of us will be indulging in some fluffy sweetness throughout the day.

Toppings might vary, but when it comes to cooking the pancake, how do you get it just right?

Dublin chef Mark Costello from Perfect Day Cafe brought Dublin Live behind the scenes and into the kitchen to show us how to make the perfect pancake.

During a live demo, Mark said for making pancakes at home you need "a hot pan, a little bit of oil and just pour the batter real slow."

"Let it cook for about 2 or 3 minutes on one side and then turn it over."

And what's the trick to getting the pancake perfectly cooked?

"Try not to flip it until the other side is cooked first. If you flip it too early that's what causes the problem," says Mark.

The key is to watch the bubbles, according to Mark.

"When you see the bubbles forming in the middle, that's an indication that it's starting to cook and ready to flip."

So it's all in the bubbles!

Dublin Live recently took to the streets to find out what their chosen way of eating a pancake is.

Most were in agreement about the tastiest (yet most simple) way to eat a pancake which is with lemon and sugar.

Although that proved to be the most popular, a good chunk of people also said that they enjoy fluffy American style pancakes with toppings like Nutella, maple syrup and bacon.

What really threw us was when one woman told us she enjoys her pancakes with spinach, mushrooms and cheese.

She explained: "As a child we used to buy them, but now I'm married to an Australian and he makes them. It's great, I'll have loads tomorrow."
