Brilliant Dublin charity Koins for Kids wants unwanted old cash to fund life saving MRI scanner for the new Children's Hospital

A Dublin based charity is asking the public to donate unwanted cash to help fund a "life-saving" MRI scanner for the new National Children's Hospital.

Koins for Kids Ireland plans to up-cycle non-euro coins as a way of raising money for the paediatric MRI scanner “that will save children’s lives decades into the future”.

The expensive machine has a hefty €1m price tag - and the charity hopes to hit this target in 2023.

They say they “have a home for any coin in the world.”

Koins for Kids posted on Facebook: “Anyone who may be decluttering, we are an organisation trying to make a big difference to the less fortunate children in communities all over the Island of Ireland that find themselves in hospital for reasons beyond their control.

“We repatriate Non-Euro coins around the globe and are providing a paediatric MRI scanner to save children's lives decades into the future. Peace and love to all from www.koinsforkids.ie.”

Koins for Kids (Koins for Kids)

Koins for Kids is a small voluntary charity that is trying to raise money for a paediatric MRI Scanner for The National Children’s Hospital, once it is built.

The charity was founded by Liam Duggan who is also the chairperson.

Liam began his voluntary labour all by himself and followed the trail of just a few donated coins at a time.

He has patiently and persistently stood in rain and shine so he could accept small change, old coins, and even repatriated foreign coins.

Additionally, he has set up counter-top collection boxes in supermarkets across the city.

Koins for Kids Ireland is now a fully-fledged charity with a regulating board of trustees.

He now has a team of other members including: Barbara Lloyd (Secretary), Peter Fairbairn (Accountant), Damien Douglas (Trustee), and Tom McKenna (Trustee).

They began repatriating Non-Euro currencies about three years ago and have already raised in excess of €200,000.

They intend to make a big difference to these children that suffer for reasons beyond their control. Donations can be made here.
