Dublin Centra closed after 'numerous rat droppings' observed in store

A Centra store in Cabra was closed after "numerous rat droppings" were observed by inspectors.

Centra Kennas, at 68 Fassaugh Avenue, was shut for a day after the inspector observed the droppings around an ice-cream machine in the store.

A report by the Food Safety Authority outlined concerns that there was a "serious risk of contamination of food, food contact surfaces, and equipment throughout the premises" and that it posed a "grave and immediate danger to public health".

The shop was closed for the day and reopened after the standards were met the next day on June 21st.

Elsewhere in the capital, widespread evidence of pest infestation led to FOUR cafes in one Dublin mall being also being closed in June.

Out of the five premises ordered to shut in all of Dublin last month, four were in Moore Street Mall where separate reports detailed evidence of cockroach and mice infestations respectively.

His Food, Steam Asian Street Food, Mroz, and Gorace Gary, all cafes, were ordered shut on June 17th.

Three of the four reports detailed evidence of mice activity while all four had failed to deal with cockroaches adequately according to the inspector.

In the case of 'Steam Asian Street Food' a dead mouse was discovered at the kitchen entrance.

The cafe was shut for a total of three days before reopening on June 21, which was one day longer than the other three premises.

The report into the Asian restaurant also detailed "rodent/mouse droppings" in the kitchen while there were live cockroaches found in a trap.

'Mroz', which is also in the mall, had evidence of mouse infestation as well as a cockroach and "a lot of flies in the butcher area."

The report said the cafe had "no follow-up on pest control despite activity found in March".

'Gorace Gary' was the third restaurant to record mice activity as well as "flies throughout premises where open food [was] being stored".

'His Food' was the only one to have no evidence of rodents, but did have a widespread roach infestation with "multiple cockroaches" found during the inspection.

Flies were also found "throughout" the premises including areas where food was being stored.

All of the cafes reopened on June 20 except for Steam Asian Street Food which reopened on the 21st.
