Dublin Bus to withdraw evening services from West Tallaght due to 'escalation' of anti-social behaviour

Buses serving the west Tallaght area are to be terminated at The Square from 6pm each evening beginning today.

Notice was served to members of the NBRU last night that the drastic move is being taken following a meeting of Dublin Bus, gardai and representatives from the Tallaght community. It was related to the ongoing anti-social behaviour that has been plaguing the routes for years but has escalated in recent weeks.

The move has been taken to ensure the safety of drivers and passengers with the union citing an "escalation of attacks on our members". The routes affected are the 27, 77a and 65B while the 56A will be diverted. The 65 will remain unchanged due to its infrequent service.

Sharing the details last night, Kieran Mahon, local Solidarity councillor, said: "Very unfortunate announcement re busses to Tallaght. This will have a hugely negative impact on thousands of workers, students and people just generally getting about their business. I'll be engaging with my union - The NBRU - and the Councils Dublin Bus & Luas Forum as to how to get services back running in a safe and acceptable manner."

The diversions from 6pm are:

Route 27, 77A and 65B - Will terminate at The Square

Route 56A - Should detour onto Cookstown Way in both directions and Belgard Square to and from The Square.

Route 65B - Will continue its route until the roundabout before Killinarden and use the 49 route to and from The Square.
