Dublin Bus to spend €1 million repairing and refurbishing fleet's access ramps

Dublin Bus is to spend €1m repairing and refurbishing the access ramps on their fleet of over one thousand busses.

The ramps, which are at the front of the buses, allow ease of access for passengers who are wheelchair users.

A tender for the overhaul work appeared on Government website eTenders earlier this week.

The tender requires a mechanical/electrical contractor to carry out the work on a contract that will initially run for three years.

There is an option for two one-year extensions, with the spend over the five-year duration of the contract estimated at €1m.

The company has its own in-house maintenance team but say the overhaul work must be contracted out as it requires specialist equipment.

A Dublin Bus spokesman told Dublin Live: "The Dublin Bus Engineering and Maintenance department repair existing ramps on the fleet a regular basis.

"This contract is to cover an overhaul of the ramp system across the fleet which is specialist work, requiring specialised equipment."

Dublin Bus has an existing contract in place for this work but the spokesman would not reveal the value of it due to it being "commercially sensitive information".

The closing date for receipt of tenders is 12pm on Monday, October 21.
