Dublin Bus reveals plans for 24-hour routes on all main routes from suburbs into city centre

Dublin Bus have revealed they plan to launch 24-hour bus routes along all major routes into the city centre.

The company said it intends to replace the long-running Nitelink service with around-the-clock routes as soon as "some semblance" of normality resumes following the coronavirus outbreak.

Dublin Bus already operates two hugely successful 24-hour services; the 41 which goes to Swords via Dublin Airport, and the 15, which goes from Clongriffin on the northside to Firhouse on the southside via the city centre.

Dublin West TD Paul Donnelly had written to Dublin Bus earlier this month to ask about a 24-hour service for the Blanchardstown area.

The company's response reveals that they plan on ditching the "popular" late night weekend Nitelink with buses that will run along the city's main arterial routes every day of the week.

The letter, signed on behalf of Dublin Bus chief Ray Coyne, says: "It is our ambition to provide 24 hour services on main arterial routes within the city replacing the popular Nitelink series which operate at weekends. This would include the Dublin 15 area.

“The phased introduction is of course dependent on securing funding agreement with the NTA which we will pursue once we return to some semblance of business as usual following COVID-19."

Deputy Donnelly posted a photo of the letter on Facebook pledging to follow through with both Dublin Bus and the National Transport Authority.

He wrote: "An encouraging response from Dublin Bus, on my request for them to look at extending 24hr Bus services to Buses servicing the Dublin 15 area.

"I will continue to pursue this with Dublin Bus and the NTA."
