Dublin Bus passengers and drivers disgust at more anti-social incidents and stoppages following latest incident in Coolock

Disgusted customers and drivers who are constantly effected by bus stoppages and anti-social incidents on Dublin Bus services have angrily reacted to the latest incident in the capital.

The public have been left shocked following a brawl involving a group of women on the 27 bus late last night in Coolock.

The terrifying fight, which saw punches hammered down, broke out just before 10pm last night, and the victim is understood to be an older woman. It is believed to have happened over a personal dispute.

It's the latest in a spate of incidents that stops the operation of routes in certain areas of both north and south Dublin, and one driver told Dublin Live that it happens almost every night.

They told Dublin Live: "This is the type of stuff we have to put up with on the 27 all the time, at both sides of the city. The service gets pulled for up to three hours almost every night, it's just not publicised.

"The most stressful part is having to tell elderly passengers that we can't go into their area. You really do feel sorry for them."

The issue is also having an impact on Go Ahead drivers, who have admitted they "fear for their lives" driving through parts of Dublin.

Dublin Bus drivers have previously threatened strike action over anti-social incidents taking place in the Jobstown area of Tallaght, with "rising levels" of incidents in recent years.

A Dublin Bus spokeswoman told Dublin Live: "I can confirm that an incident took place onboard Route 27 yesterday evening at approximately 21:45. An Garda Síochána were contacted and attended the scene.

"All Dublin Bus employees are fully trained on the comprehensive procedures for dealing with incidents such as this. Each vehicle is equipped with a radio which allows immediate contact to our Central Control Centre. This means that the driver has immediate contact to a team of Dublin Bus Inspectors should assistance be required in any given situation. During this incident, the driver followed this procedure."

A garda spokeswoman told Dublin Live: "Gardaí responded to reports of a public order incident which took place on a bus on Priorwood Road, Coolock yesterday evening, 26th November 2020 at approximately 9.45pm.

"Investigations are ongoing and no further information is available at this time."
