Dublin Bus gets third 24-hour route as service launched ahead of Christmas period

Dublin Bus is to get a third 24-hour bus route in the capital just in time for the busy Christmas period.

The 39a from Belfield to Ongar is set to launch on Sunday December 13, operating around the clock alongside the 15 and 41 which have served through the night since last year.

It is understood that Dublin Bus CEO Ray Coyne told local TDs about the plans in an email describing the announcement as a "significant opportunity to continue the growth and success of Dublin Bus" according to Newstalk.

He said that this was "an important step forward for the city" with "24-hour bus services key to helping everyone travel quickly and safely at night".

Services on the route will increase during the day and will now run every half hour between 11:30pm and 5am.

When the new service launches, the 39n Nitelink will be withdrawn with other Nitelinks having their services altered to facilitate the change.

Dublin Bus are said to be making an official announcement this week which will see 80 more drivers and mechanics employed.
