Dublin boy's reaction on RTE's Raised by the Village leaves viewers in tears

A young boy warmed hearts across the nation on RTE's Raised by the Village on Sunday.

The show sees urban children leave their homes to stay in a rural setting to learn about a life in a smaller community.

Melita Dunne, 13, from Tallaght and Jamie Lee from Clondalkin were uprooted from their homes and sent to Clonaslee, Co Laois in last night's episode.

And although it took them some time to settle in, by the end of the programme, Jamie Lee did not want to go home and became tearful when he had to say his goodbyes.

The youngster spent his time milking cows, collecting straw to thatch roofs and assisting the local gardai.

And while Jamie Lee wasn't sure about becoming a guard, he later set his heart on joining the army in the future.

Meanwhile Melita initially didn't want to give up her precious phone, but she too soon got stuck into farm work, tending to alpacas and horses.

When time came to return home, Jamie Lee was given a photo of the family he stayed with and he became emotional.

Viewers were touched by his tears, with many praising him for his attitude on the show.

One wrote: "In bits after this week's #raisedbythevillage - stimulation and having hobbies are key."

Another added: "That was possibly my favourite episode of #raisedbythevillage so far. Jamie from #Clondalkin has me absolutely happy bawling crying.

"A glaring example of a good kid painted bad by lack of services/supports and community opportunities to occupy their minds."
