Dublin bound train hugely delayed after vehicle hits bridge

A Dublin bound train was delayed for almost an hour this morning after a vehicle struck a bridge on the route.

The 9:30am Galway to Heuston service was held at Tullamore while Irish Rail engineers inspected the bridge between the town and Portarlington.

Irish Rail tweeted: "Heuston currently held in Tullamore station due to a vehicle hitting a bridge between Tullamore and Portarlington.

"Engineers en route to complete inspection of the bridge. Update to follow."

The train was held up for almost 40 minutes before rail chiefs confirmed it was moving again with delays.
