Aodhan O’Riordain is the early new favourite to be the new leader of the Labour Party.
The recently elected Dublin Bay North TD was tipped to succeed at 6/4 to take over the party, but has now evened out after Brendan Howlin announced his resignation on Wednesday.
Alan Kelly and Ged Nash stand at 9/4 as the party will meet this weekend to set the leadership contest in motion.
Howlin has resigned after his party won only six seats in last weekend’s general election.
Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “Brendan Howlin is the first real casualty of the election and it comes as little surprise after a poor showing and the likes of Joan Burton missing out on a seat.
“The early money is coming for Aodhan O’Riordain and as a result we are making him favourite for now at Even money from 6/4.”
