Dublin area on high alert as criminal gang uses cunning technology to steal cars

Residents of a Dublin area have been asked to remain vigilant as devious criminals have been using sophisticated technology to steal cars.

The warning comes after quick-thinking Drumcondra residents stopped two cars from being stolen on Monday.

Three men in a van were spotted trying to snatch the vehicles using high-tech equipment to disable the car's alarms and locking system.

A warning on the Drumcondra Social Facebook page reads: "Two cars from Millmount Villas, Drumcondra have just nearly been stolen, only for an elderly man shouting and my uncle hearing the two cars would have been gone.

"It's two to three men in a white van, they seem to have some technology to block your car alarm and locking. These cars could have been taken in minutes.

"We have reported to police so they are aware but I would just keep an eye out on the cars that don't have a front garden.

"Just thought I would let you all know! Hopefully, they will be caught."

Dublin Live has contacted the gardai for a comment.
