A weather station at Dublin Airport recorded more rain in an hour this morning than the entire month of May.
The capital enjoyed its driest spring on record but typically, as soon as lockdown was eased the changeable weather returned with a vengeance.
The Met Eireann station recorded 11.5mm of rain between 5am and 6am this morning.
Dublin Airport said: "What the fliuch. The Met Eireann weather station here recorded 11.5mm of rain between 5am and 6am this morning as showers battered the city.
"That's more rain in an hour than in the whole month of May. Definitely a soft start to the day."
The wet weather doesn't look like it's ending any time soon with a warning of "further heavy downpours with spot flooding" in place until 2pm.
And as the weekend draws in things won't get much better.
