Dublin Airport tries again to introduce drop-off and pick-up charges

Dublin Airport has once again applied for permission to build a new paid drop-off and pick-up zone.

The daa has sent revised plans to Fingal County Council to install this new infrastructure as well as changing the internal road layout at the airport.

Fingal County Council had refused planning permission for the proposed paid drop-off and pick-up point in February.

One of the main reasons why the first proposal was rejected was due to the loss of long term car parking spaces.

These revised plans will add a further 39 long term car parking spaces with a final decision on the application due in November.

Ryanair also opposed the plans citing through its consultants, BMA, that any levy on customers would impact the customers experience of the airport.

So how would you be charged?

An Automated Number Plate recognition service would be in use if this infrastructure is given the go-ahead. Car plates would be scanned at the entry and exit point with how much a driver is charged depending on how long the driver spent in the zone.
