Dublin Airport travel update: Massive increase in flights expected in capital due to Cork works

Dublin Airport is set to see a massive increase in traffic in the coming weeks as upgrades at Cork Airport mean the majority of flights will be redirected to the capital.

The runway upgrade is set to last 10 weeks with the regional airport reportedly down 80% compared to normal traffic volumes.

"Cork expects a strong Christmas after the runway reconstruction serving VFR (visiting friends and relatives) traffic and a very strong rally in airline and passenger numbers for summer 2022," a spokesperson said.

This comes on the back of massive delays in Dublin Airport over the past weekend which meant many passengers missed their flight.

Passengers took to social media expressing their displeasure at the delays as hundreds queued trying to get through to their flights for the second day in a row.

And the Airport Twitter account said that "additional resources" were being deployed to help open up the pressure on the queues.

"Dublin Airport is experiencing lengthy queues for security screening this morning," they said.

"Additional resources have been deployed to the area and we expect the situation to ease shortly.

"We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience."

"Our teams are working hard to help you on your way."

Dublin Airport has issued handy guidelines for passengers flying out including what to expect when going through security.
