Dublin Airport travel update as America to slap more entry restrictions on Irish tourists

It looks like the US Government is set to apply more entry requirements on Irish tourists as the Delta variant continues to spread across the country.

Dublin Airport currently has numerous testing facilities surrounding the airport but a negative result doesn't look like it'll be enough to enter the US.

It's also unclear as to whether the EU digital travel cert will be an acceptable form of proof of full vaccination to the American authorities, or whether full recovery from Covid is enough, either.

The officials are currently examining whether to make full vaccination a mandatory requirement for entry into the US.

This comes after America placed Ireland on a red list of countries that it does not recommend its citizens travel to at this current moment in time.

The domination of the Delta variant across Europe and the US means that officials are constantly looking at international travel and what restrictions/advisories to place on tourists.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday, White House Covid 19 coordinator Jeff Zients didn't rule out the entry requirement of full vaccination.

He said: "agency working groups that are developing plans for when we do open travel...in a consistent and a safe way."

"Part of that planning is a phased approach that foreign nationals travelling to the United States may - there's still policy work being done here - may need to have some type of vaccine requirement."

Ireland currently has the fastest vaccine rollout of any OECD member. As of today in Ireland, 86.9% of people aged 16+ have had at least one dose of vaccine and 73.3% are fully vaccinated.

Over 6.03 million doses have been administered.
