Dublin Airport travel latest: Fresh travel restrictions to be placed on Irish tourists travelling to the continent

Non-essential international travel may have just returned at the start of last week but Irish tourists look set to face more restrictions on entering this EU country.

From August 8, The Netherlands will be placing the same restriction on Irish tourists that they currently apply to tourists from Portugal, Spain, Andorra and Cyprus.

Dutch Prime Minister, Mark Rutte has announced that from August 8, anyone in the EU wanting to fly to the Netherlands will now have to produce a negative PCR test AND an Antigen test.

People previously only had to produce a negative PCR test.

This new rule only applies to those tourists who have not had both doses of vaccine or the one-shot J&J vaccine.

Any country that the Netherlands categorise as yellow, orange or red, its unvaccinated citizens will have to produce a negative PCR test taken no more than 48 hours before flying to the Netherlands.

An antigen test will have to be taken up to 24 hours before departure.

If tourists have recovered from Covid-19 or are fully vaccinated, can use the Dutch government's CoronaCheck app to confirm their status.

These new rules do not apply to anyone under the age of 12.

This news comes on the back of the summer schedule being confirmed by Dublin Airport.

Major hotspots for Irish tourists will have plenty of flights daily from Dublin Airport.

Spain will have 160 flights from Dublin Airport every week including the likes of Barcelona, Bilbao, Madrid, Malaga, Alicante, Ibiza and Lanzarote. Aer Lingus, Ryanair and Iberia Express are the three airlines operating the routes.

64 flights will be heading to Portugal from Dublin Airport every week. Only three locations are included with Ryanair, Aer Lingus and TAP Air Portugal operating on the routes.

Travellers have a choice of Faro, Porto and Lisbon.

Aer Lingus has also revealed a 'welcome back' flight sale.
