Dublin Airport set to trial use of luggage drop-off points across the city

Dublin Airport are set to trial a new initiative that would see the introduction of luggage drop-off points across the city making it easier for passengers to check-in for flights.

The service would allow passengers to drop their bags at the secure drop-off points before heading to the airport.

It is hoped the new system will greatly reduce the waiting time for check-in at the airport.

The airports operator, daa, have issued a periodic indicative notice seeking interested parties to partner with them on the project.

The notice reads: "Dublin Airport has experienced strong traffic growth over the last number of years with record passenger numbers of more than 31,000,000 passengers passing through the airport in 2018.

"An opportunity exists to provide a new remote baggage service to Dublin Airport passengers, facilitating them to check-in hold baggage at locations outside of the airport campus.

"Between Oct 2018 and September 2019, Daa handled nearly 8,000,000 check-in bags through its baggage system.

"To successfully deliver on our business demands and evolving customer needs, Daa is seeking to invite interested firms to meet as part of a market research initiative to understand the opportunity and the potential capability and experience available in the market.

"Daa will then determine how it could tender for a provider to trial a remote bag drop service."

The meetings will be held until 20 January 2020 with the authority estimating the tender project for the project will be issued by the end of March.
