Dublin Airport seizure sees Revenue recover 300,000 cigarettes

Three people were arrested after Revenue officers seized 300,000 cigarettes at Dublin Airport over the course of last week.

The searches were carried out as a result of routine profiling.

The smuggled cigarettes have an estimated retail value of €210,000, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of €167,000.

Revenue officers discovered the ‘B&H’, ‘Kent’ and ‘NZ Gold’ cigarettes were found when Revenue officers stopped and checked the baggage of a number of passengers who had flown from Amsterdam and Athens.

Detector dogs Maggie and Wilson helped officers with the search.

A Latvian national in his 50s, a UK national in his 40s and a UK national in her 20s were arrested.

Investigations are currently ongoing.

A Revenue spokeswoman said: "These seizures are part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting organised crime and the supply of illegal tobacco products.
