Dublin Airport seize knuckle dusters, meat cleavers, and hunting knives at security

Knuckle dusters, meat cleavers, and other deadly weapons have been confiscated by Dublin Airport security since international travel has resumed.

These sorts of items are being removed from luggage on a near-daily basis as passengers have forgotten what can and can't be brought on flights.

Even Christmas gifts are being confiscated with items like hurleys, snow globes, and other gift sets being confiscated by Dublin Airport security.

There's also been an increase in passengers forgetting to take out and separate any liquids before making it through security gates.

According to airport officials, 15 wheelie bins worth of liquids are filled every day.

"People are coming through who haven't been home at all in a long time so they think they're going to bring home things like these meat shredders, but obviously these would be classed as being prohibited articles," Sarah Kelly of the Dublin Airport Search Unit told RTE.

While some of the confiscated items can go to charity, the vast majority end up in a landfill.

Dublin Airport advises passengers to bring any gifts in their hand luggage unwrapped and make sure that the gift meets the necessary requirements for boarding a flight.
