Dublin Airport responds after Dr Tony Holohan 'concerned' over lack of Covid cert checks

Dublin Airport has responded after Dr Tony Holohan said he was "concerned" after his Covid cert wasn't checked while traveling through the airport last week.

A spokesperson for the airport said departure checks are carried out by airlines or their agents before flying.

They said on Twitter: "Following some recent commentary, we would like to clarify that departure checks are carried out by airlines or their agents in advance of flying and any spot checks on arriving passengers @DublinAirport are the responsibility of the State’s immigration officials."

Their comments come after the CMO said during NPHET press briefing on Wednesday: "I am concerned about that and I had my own experience in Dublin Airport last Friday and I wasn't checked in terms of my status whereas I was checked in the (other side).

"So I am concerned about that. We have the means, we have the technology, the data, all of that kind of stuff to lift up our level of collective performance in terms of enforcement and oversight."
