Dublin Airport passengers shocked as woman flies home in Covid-proof hazmat suit

A passenger at Dublin Airport stunned travellers by wearing a Covid-proof hazmat suit on her flight home for Christmas.

Emer, who works at a zoo in Bedfordshire in the UK, hadn't seen her family in Ireland for over a year.

She explained that she had self-quarantined ahead of her flight, and had also recently taken a Covid test.

Emer told Today with Claire Byrne on RTE Radio One: "I travelled from Luton, I haven't seen my family in a year it was very important for me to take it seriously.

"I've been isolating for the last 10 days I really needed to see my mum, I live on my own.

"It can be lonely so I miss the family a lot, so I've tried everything to try and remain as safe as possible.

"I'm wearing a hazmat suit, I've got a visor on, mask, I've two pairs of gloves, and I'm using lots of sanitiser and wipes.

"I've been isolating for the last ten days and I've taken a Covid test which is negative, I just want to keep my mum and dad safe, so it's for them."

"I know they recommend people not to [travel] but it's very important for my mental health. So I took all the precautions I could to keep them as safe as possible."

Emer's dad was full of praise for the efforts his daughter made to make it home for the festive season.

He added: "She hasn't been home for the last year, we're so excited she's come home.

"I think she's brilliant, I can't tell you how much she loves her mum and dad, she's trying to protect us as well.

"I can't tell you how excited we are. We're going to have a very happy Christmas."
