Dublin Airport passenger disgusted by seeing Londonderry on Aer Lingus in-flight map

An Aer Lingus passenger has been left disgusted after seeing the location Londonderry on an in-flight map.

The man was looking at the interactive map while waiting for his flight to take off from Dublin Airport to Chicago.

Dublin-based Aer Lingus appears to use Londonderry instead of Derry - which had the London prefix added during the Plantation of Ulster in 1613.

As the city - which has two names - is mostly referred to as Derry in the Republic of Ireland, many have found it puzzling as to why the Irish flight company opts for location's second name.

Reddit user Mi1key took social media on Thursday morning, saying: "Seen this abomination on my Aer Lingus flight to Chicago."

One person commented: "That's no Aer Lingus, that's the flying column from Dublin eating up north to liberate the people of Derry."

A second user said: "I would've got off."

A third added: "Derry - the only word in the English language with six silent letters."
