Dublin Airport: Night-time flight restrictions proposed for new runway

Night-time flight restrictions and noise quotas have been proposed as part of the new north runway at Dublin Airport.

The new runway is due to open next year and the Aircraft Noise Competent Authority is now putting a number of proposals out for public consultation.

Fingal County Council will have to approve the plans after they come back from public consultation.

Dublin Airport had asked for a relaxation of the planning conditions attached to the granting of permission to their second runway in 2007.

The ANCA's proposals are a response to this request.

ANCA Director Ethna Felton said the recommendations would be in line with international best practice.

She said: "Our recommendations will bring Ireland into line with international best practice and help us to meet our objective to manage noise at Dublin Airport."

"Our recommendations focus on limiting and reducing the impacts of night-time aircraft noise in Dublin and will guide future decisions regarding aircraft noise management at Dublin Airport.

She added: "I encourage people to participate in this public consultation because these decisions we make together will affect local residents, businesses and everybody who uses Dublin Airport.”
