Dublin Airport mystery as bizarre Google Maps satellite picture leaves many baffled

A number of people have been left stumped after a satellite picture of Dublin Airport shows no planes at the airport.

The image, which was captured on Google Maps, shows an overhead view of Ireland's busiest airports devoid of planes.

Twitter user @TimForde said: "What's the story with @googlemaps satellite imagery of airports?

"They've scrubbed every last plane from @DublinAirport. Seems similar for Heathrow and JFK too.

"Have planes or airports started invoking some EU GDPR Right to be Forgotten law?"

In a typical hilarious fashion, the Dublin Airport Twitter page replied: "Tim, why did you expect to see planes?

"You must be still living in version 3.0 of The Matrix, the one before the aliens removed all the aircraft from the simulation. Do keep up please."

But they added: "Seriously though, it is quite odd to see ourselves devoid of aircraft. Not a single one. And as you say, it’s the same if you look at @googlemaps for @HeathrowAirport or @JFKairport.

"However, it shows aircraft @CorkAirport and both airports in Belfast and at @ParisAeroport, etc.

"We’re not sure what the story is, but if we were able to guess - which of course as an airport we can’t - we’d speculate that it might be related to a change in the way @googlemaps is displaying airports and some satellite images are older than others. That could be rubbish though."
