Dublin Airport good news as mystery 'traveller' reunited with family in heartwarming lockdown tail

With all the doom and gloom around the country at the moment, it's nice to find a quirky good m news story that helps lift the nation's spirits and to act as a timely reminder to never, ever lose all hope.

Dublin Airport is the scene of this week's heartwarming lockdown tail tale, where one mystery traveller was reunited with their family after going missing almost one month ago.

One woman's pet, Leo, went missing on Christmas Eve and hadn't been seen since with the owner fearing that the poor pussycat had been the victim of a hit and run.

But in a shock twist, Leo had lingered about 8km from his home in Swords (before Level 5 lockdown restrictions had come into place so Leo has an escape claws) and ended up in the airside area near Terminal 1.

Airport police picked up the curious cat and with his detailed collar, they were able to reunite the cat with its owner.

Dublin Airport said that the owner was "delighted to our call to say Leo was safe and well".

They joked: "Although he was in an airside area without reason and that did give us paws (sorry) for thought, we’ll let Leo off this one time. It was clear he was doing no harm - the evidence was right before Airport police’s eyes in black and white."

In not such good news, Dublin Airport has lost connections to 115 cities across the globe due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

The airport had just 291,000 passengers during this festive season, compared to 2.3 million in the Christmas month of 2019, a decrease of 87%.

As of now, the airport has scheduled flights to just 85 cities, compared to 200 before the pandemic hit.
