Gardai are cracking down on travellers arriving into Dublin Airport as fines are set to come in for people heading on holiday.
Under current lockdown restrictions, non-essential travel is prohibited, with fines issued by gardai.
And today, it has emerged that not only are there garda checkpoints surrounding Dublin Airport, but they are now questioning passengers who arrive into Dublin before they pass security clearance.
From Monday, people who are caught trying to holiday rather than travel for essential reasons, will face a €500 fine.
In order to fly into Dublin Airport, passengers are expected to produce a negative COVID PCR test and an essential reason for travelling.
One airport passenger, who spotted the garda check, told Dublin Live that gardai "mean business" with the number of checkpoints set up both inside and outside the travel hub.
They said: "They were checking for essential travel and PCR ahead of security. No one was turned back. There's also garda check points set up on ramps and surrounding roads."
