RTE viewers were fuming after last night's Prime Time segment showed returning holidaymakers arriving into Dublin Airport despite the ongoing pandemic.
The Irish Government confirmed yesterday that the current Level Five lockdown was being extended until March.
And presenter Miriam O'Callaghan asked why the Government was taking so long to introduce more travel restrictions, RSVP Live reports.
Reporter, Conor McMorrow was at Dublin Airport investigating just where those landing in Dublin Airport were coming from, and viewers reacted with utter fury as they watched holidaymakers return from Lanzarote as well as Spanish students coming over to host families in Ireland.
Dozens took to social media to express their outrage that this travel was not being stopped insisting mandatory quarantine was necessary.
One wrote: "On the day we surpassed 3,000 Covid deaths these people were arriving home from Lanzarote with a fresh tan."
Another commented: "How are we ever going to go back to normal, Spanish students coming over with the schools closed and people flying off to Lanzarote. It makes the efforts we are all putting in over here mean nothing!"
While one viewer noted: "Lanzarote, unreal. I'm 10k from Tramore and I'd love nothing more than a walk on the beach yet people can fly in from a sun holiday. What a joke."
And another angrily wrote: "While Irish children with acute special needs are not getting the education which they clearly need, we have kids arriving in from Spain so they can study English ... the mind truly boggles at this sham of a government and their incompetence."
The Taoiseach explained that while lockdown is working, hospitals remain under too much pressure, and added that we need to bring numbers down further.
"The emergence of new variants represents a dangerous and new development, to which we cannot give any space", he said.
"The message to people for the next six weeks is very simple, stay at home. Hold firm and stick to the basics" he continued.
