Dublin Airport flight to US forced to abort take off after crew hears a loud bang

A transatlantic flight was forced to abort takeoff after a loud bang was heard from one of the engines.

Aer Lingus EL 123 was about to lift off when the engine suffered a problem causing the aircraft EI-FNG to lose thrust.

Emergency services rushed to the scene of the incident that happened on a flight to Chicago on Sunday afternoon.

The aircraft was in the process of taking off when the crew heard a loud bang forcing the pilots to reject the takeoff.

The flight was returned to stand and passengers were accommodated on a replacement aircraft a few hours later.

A spokesperson for the daa confirmed that Aer Lingus flight EI 123 from Dublin to Chicago experienced a technical issue prior to take off yesterday.

Dublin Live has contacted Aer Lingus for a comment.
