An American Airlines plane made contact with an Aer Lingus A330 at Dublin Airport this morning resulting in the flight being temporarily grounded, as the damage is investigated.
According to the airline, the wing of the US aircraft tipped an Irish long-haul plane while it was being pushed back from its terminal stand, preparing for takeoff.
An American Airlines spokesperson confirmed the incident Dublin Live this afternoon and said all passengers safely disembarked the plane with no injuries and will be put up in accommodation overnight ahead of their rescheduled flights tomorrow.
They confirmed: “American Airlines flight AA723 from Dublin (DUB) to Philadelphia (PHL), a Boeing 787-8 aircraft, incurred damage during push back, when the right wingtip made contact with a nearby parked aircraft.
“All customers onboard have deplaned and returned to the terminal with no injuries reported.
“The aircraft has been taken out of service for maintenance.
“We are providing overnight accommodation for our customers and rebooking them on alternative flights departing tomorrow.
“We thank our team members for their professionalism and apologize to our customers for the inconvenience.”
The extent of the damage to the Irish aircraft is yet to be confirmed.
Aer Lingus has been contacted for comment on the incident.
