Dublin Airport flight bound for Liverpool forced to divert after plane skids off runway

A Dublin Airport flight bound for Liverpool's John Lennon Airport has been forced to divert after a plane skidded off the runway.

The incident happened early this morning at the Merseyside transport hub, with emergency services called to the scene.

A private jet skidded off the runway on arrival to the airport.

As a result, the Ryanair flight originating in Dublin was forced to divert to Manchester.

There is currently no timeframe for when the Liverpool airport will re-open, but airport operators have said it will be closed until at least this afternoon.

The next flight from Dublin is due to depart at 6.10pm this evening.

Another Irish flight, heading from Liverpool to Knock, is expected to depart at 1.50pm this afternoon although its current status is unconfirmed.

An spokesman for Liverpool John Lennon Airport said: "I can confirm that around 6am a private business jet with four people on board - three crew and a passenger landed OK but then came off onto the grass. For whatever reason it has skidded off the runway.

"There are no injuries but because of where it has ended up we have had to close the runway. Passengers are advised to check with their airlines before travelling."
